After a one year hiatus, the Shockers returned with a strong outing to gain a win over the reigning champion Catlin Engineers.

BRUNSWICK BARONS 6    BRAVES 2

The Barons got off to a shaky start behind WP Matt Rowley. He pitched superbly, getting ground balls, changing speeds and recording strikeouts.

OUTLAWS 9    PIRATES 6

Led by rookie manager Charlie Buonocore,  the Outlaws scored their first victory. Highlights included, home runs by Outlaws 1B Bob Bennett and by Pirates’ 2B Lucas Jones.

 

BLUE DIVISION

HURRICANES 4    ALPHA DOGS 3

WP Tim Whitehead went the distance for the ‘Canes first victory. CF Gary Lanier led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. For the Dogs, SS Billy Bennett and 1B Fulton Burns III had multi-hit games. The defensive play of the game was made by pitcher Frank Amoroso who fielded a bunt along the first baseline, diving for the ball and making a back-handed flip to nip the runner at first base, ala’ Derek Jeter in the World Series.

QUEENSBORO RIPTIDES 6    SEAHAWKS 1

The Riptides used the time-tested formula of timely hitting and flawless fielding to record their first win. The newly married WP Dan Miller pitched 5 innings yielding one run and Steve Goodman finished the game in relief.  Greg Upchurch, Dan Miller, Steve Goodman and Wes Hayford led the offense with 2 hits each. Returning veteran Sean Reese drove in the lone run for the ‘Hawks.
